RE: COMMUNITY ENHANCEMENT COMMITTEE
REPORT FOR COMMUNITY ENHANCEMENT COMMITTEE
Thank you to Committee Members:
Ron Sparkes, Betty Mercer, Wendy Boyd, Cyrese Samuel, Tony Cairns, Jan Naylor
COMMUNITY SPRING CLEANUP
By all accounts, the annual spring cleanup was a success. Bob Abbot organized
the volunteers and the community looked great after the job was complete.
Many thanks to all the volunteers!
NEW NEIGHBOURHOOD STREET SIGNS
A special thanks goes to Jan Naylor for spearheading this project to fruition. The
signs are clearly legible and look great!
Jan spent numerous hours discussing sign design, cost, and sign replacement
with Board members and sign designers and makers.
ENHANCEMENT OF COMMUNITY USING GARDEN FEATURES
With respect to the entrance feature garden, on the southeast corner of Deerfoot
Trail and East Browns Road, several community members will be offering their
assistance in maintaining the garden.
There is potential to further enhance our neighbourhood by pursuing the
possibility of creating a garden at the corner of Birchwood Drive and Deerfoot
Trail (corner closest to the existing pond). Currently, this corner is an eyesore and
needs attention.
A draft plan will be drawn-up and submitted to the Town for their approval. Our
Committee discussed the possibility of using large rocks as a retaining wall to
support a garden feature. Drought resistant and deer resistant plants are
proposed. Also, shrubs and conifers will be considered.
A cost estimate will be submitted to Alliance Homes for their participation in cost
sharing.
It should be noted that the garden feature would not encroach on private property.
WELCOME PACKAGES TO NEW COMMUNITY MEMBERS
Jan Naylor and Betty Mercer continue to assemble and deliver welcome gifts to
newly arrived Woodland Heights' residents.
Our Committee fully endorses this worthwhile effort. Keep up the good work Jan
and Betty.
TREE ASSESSMENT WALK
At a recent Community Enhancement Committee meeting, we discussed the
potential for dead trees falling on the road right-of-way. In light of this, our
Committee members will walk the streets of Woodland Heights to visually assess
trees for their condition.
Wherever there are suspect trees, of a libelous nature, these will be documented.
The owner will be notified of the potential danger and any trees recommended to
be taken down.
